Peace of Mind
For a trip longer than 60 kilometers, as the battery is depleted, an on-board engine generator creates additional electricity to power the car for hundreds of additional kilometers. With the Opel Ampera, there is no range anxiety or fear of running out of electricity and becoming stranded.
Practical, Zero-Emission Solution
The pure electric drive range (60 kilometers) of the Opel Ampera represents a practical, zero-emission solution for dramatically reducing our dependence on petroleum and cutting emissions because the majority of car owners travel less than 60 kilometers each day. For example, nearly 80 percent of German drivers commute 50 kilometers or less daily.
Low Cost of Ownership
Economic Charging Cost
The Opel Ampera can be plugged into a standard 230-volt household outlet for charging. Opel estimates currently that it will cost less than 1 euro at night for a full charge that will deliver up to 60 kilometers of electric driving.
Opel anticipates that an electrically driven kilometer in the Opel Ampera will cost about one-fifth the price of an electrically driven kilometer in a conventional gasoline-powered vehicle. It is expected that it will cost about 2 euro cents per kilometer to drive electrically vs. 12 euro cents using gasoline priced at €1.50 per liter.
The Opel Ampera is likely to be charged during off-peak hours in the evening or overnight, when consumption is lower, potentially further reducing the cost of recharging.
Fuel Saving
The Opel Ampera uses no gasoline and produces no emissions for up to 60 kilometers, which enables it to save approximately 1,700 liters of gasoline each year (compared to a vehicle that averages 7.8 l/100 km).
Opel estimates that drivers who travel 100 kilometers per day (36,500 kilometers per year) could save about 1,900 liters of gasoline annually (compared to a vehicle that averages 7.8 l/100 km).
Impact on the Grid
Fun to Drive
An Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (E-REV) like the Opel Ampera is a fun-to-drive car with quick acceleration. The Ampera’s electric drive unit delivers 150 horsepower, 370 Nm of instant torque, and a top speed of 161 km/h. The lack of engine noise, combined with special sound-deadening materials, makes the Ampera an extremely quiet vehicle to drive.
